However, if Crawford were to come out of retirement and fight one more time, there’s one bout that’d likely top most people’s wish list.

Crawford and unified 154-pound champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis traded words during the DAZN and TNT telecast of Damian Knyba’s unanimous decision victory over Andy Ruiz on Friday at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. During the exchange, Crawford told Ennis he knows what would have happened if he had been the one to hurt him the way Xander Zayas did in the third round of their fight.

Ennis, 29, quipped that Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) had been hurt numerous times throughout his career. Before the interview concluded, Crawford said he hopes Ennis becomes the undisputed 154-pound champion soon.

Crawford, 38, won world titles in five divisions and was the undisputed champion in three of them. The Omaha, Nebraska, native’s last fight was a unanimous decision victory over Canelo Alvarez in September 2025.

Ennis (36-0, 32 KOs), The Ring’s No. 1-ranked junior middleweight and No. 9-ranked fighter pound-for-pound, has become a unified champion in two divisions. The Philadelphia native achieved the feat in a second division in his last fight, stopping Zayas in the seventh round to claim the WBA and WBO 154-pound titles on June 27.

While both fighters have also shown respect for each other, their competitive nature is easy to see whenever one is asked about the other, or in this case, when they’re face-to-face. Even with Crawford retired, a fight with Ennis remains one of the biggest that could be made in boxing.
