Featherweight contender Michael Conlan is set to return to the ring in early September.

Details of Conlan’s second fight this year are close to being finalised. Promoter Kalle Sauerland indicated during an interview with The Ring's Louis Hart that Conlan would be in a “big fight.”

The 33-year-old Conlan ended 14 months of inactivity March 7, when he outpointed Asad Asif Khan over eight rounds at Brighton Centre in Brighton, England.

That outing was the first of Conlan’s multi-fight deal with Wasserman Boxing. The win was his first since December 2022, following consecutive technical-knockout defeats to Luis Alberto Lopez and Jordan Gill, which left Conlan considering retirement.

After his victory over Khan, the fan favorite from Belfast was brought head-to-head with European featherweight champion Cristobal Lorente. A fight between them seemed likely, but that matchup never happened.

The 29-year-old Lorente is now scheduled to face Ruben Gil on July 5 instead. The trail for Conlan looked to have gone cold, but Sauerland has confirmed that they are on the brink of announcing his next move.

“We’re hopeful in the next 10 days we’ll make an announcement," Sauerland said during his interview with The RIng. “It’s looking like an early September return – probably the first weekend of September. Just sorting out bits on the opponent and venue. But we are very excited, very excited to have Mick on board.

“This is a big fight, but it leads to other big fights. He’s at the stage of his career where every fight is a big fight.”

As a result of beating Khan three months ago, Conlan moved to 19-3 (9 KOs).
