The purse bid for the fight was set for May 14 and it is understood that Queensberry, who are Adeleye’s long-term promoters, won with a bid of £150,000 which was enough to eclipse that of TKV’s promoters Boxxer, who pledged £135,000.
Queensberry Promotions have won the purse bid for the British heavyweight title rematch between David Adeleye and Jeamie TKV.
The pair met for the vacant belt on April 5 and Adeleye won via a controversial sixth-round stoppage.
The left hook which initially dropped TKV and ultimately led to the stoppage appeared to land after referee Ron Kearney had not only called "break" but moved one of TKV’s hands during the clinch.
However, Kearney allowed the fight to go on and stopped it moments later with TKV under heavy fire from Adeleye.
In the week that followed, the British Boxing Board of Control met to review the incident and decided to order an immediate rematch between the London pair.
The purse bid for the fight was set for May 14 and it is understood that Queensberry, who are Adeleye’s long-term promoters, won with a bid of £150,000 which was enough to eclipse that of TKV’s promoters Boxxer, who pledged £135,000.
Given the terms of the rematch, Adeleye would receive a 60/40 split, meaning he would earn £90,000 for the fight with TKV in line for the remaining £60,000.
During an interview with The Ring on Wednesday, Queensberry boss Frank Warren confirmed that there is a possibility the rematch could take place at Wembley on the undercard of Oleksandr Usyk’s undisputed clash with Daniel Dubois on July 19 now that Queensberry have control of the fight.
However, it is unclear whether the boxers will decide to take the immediate rematch on those terms or opt for a different route instead. A source close to the negotiations told The Ring that both fighters may have hoped to receive more for the rematch which may leave it in jeopardy altogether.
As the Board stopped short of declaring the first fight a no-contest, Adeleye moved to (14-1, 13 KOs) as a result of his victory while TKV officially lost for the second time (8-2, 5 KOs).
