British and Commonwealth super lightweight champion, Jack Rafferty, 25-0 (16 KOs), will look to extend the longest unbeaten run in British boxing when he fights undefeated Yorkshireman, Corey O’Regan, 14-0 (3 KOs), on April 5th.
British and Commonwealth super lightweight champion, Jack Rafferty, 25-0 (16 KOs), will look to extend the longest unbeaten run in British boxing when he fights undefeated Yorkshireman, Corey O’Regan, 14-0 (3 KOs), on April 5th.
The fight makes up part of the undercard to the crossroads fight between Joe Joyce and Filip Hrgovic which takes place at Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena. The show will be the the first of Queensberry’s new broadcast deal with DAZN.
Last October, 29 year-old Rafferty added the vacant British title to his collection by wearing down and stopping the previously undefeated star amateur, Henry Turner, in nine rounds.
That victory earned him a promotional deal with Queensberry and a showcase on the undercard of February’s fight between Derek Chisora and Otto Wallin which took place at Manchester’s Co-Op Live arena.
Rafferty - who can see the brand new venue from his apartment - made the most of the platform and broke down the game Reece MacMillan over seven increasingly one-sided rounds.
Keen to maintain his momentum and aware that Queensberry would be returning to the arena on April 5th, Rafferty and his trainer, Steve Maylett, got straight back to work in the hope that he would be added to the show.
His hard work has paid off and it has finally been confirmed that he will defend his Commonwealth title against the southpaw, O’Regan.
O’Regan, 29, trains under Mark Hurley at Dicky’s Gym in Batley. British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion, Callum Simpson, and European flyweight champion, Jasmina Zapotoczna, also fight out of the successful, understated gym. He is a talented, slick fighter but will be taking a sizeable step up in opposition against the heavy handed Rafferty.
Interestingly, Portsmouth’s Mark Chamberlain, 16-1 (12 KOs), has been added to the bill as he looks to rebound from his loss to recent world title challenger, Josh Padley, last September. Chamberlain has moved up to 140lbs and the groundwork could be being laid for a future fight between he and Rafferty.
Super featherweight. Royston Barney-Smith, will also box on the card as he looks to make 2025 the year he transitions from prospect to contender. An opponent has yet to be confirmed.
