For whatever reason, Gervonta Davis and Raymond Ford have an issue with one another. The two have gone back and forth over social media in the past and don’t appear interested in doing anything other than punching each other in the face.

There haven’t been any formal talks between the two teams but Ford is keeping his cell phone extremely close to him nowadays. It isn’t that he’s expecting Davis to give him a ring, but if he does, Ford will pick up immediately.

“If Gervonta ends up calling my phone, I’ll definitely answer that phone call before I answer any other phone call,” said Ford to The Ring.

In all likelihood, Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) has other business to attend to. On May 1st, Davis, who sauntered to the ring in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center as a gargantuan favorite over Lamont Roach, settled for a majority decision draw. Reports have surfaced of the two running things back in June in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Still, even if Roach gets another crack at him, Ford (17-1-1, 8 KOs) believes he’s still in the mix. Although he competes one weight class below him, so did Roach. It also wouldn’t be the first time Davis has picked a fighter from a smaller weight class as an opponent.

If Davis selects him, then so be it, but Ford has a life outside of him. The 26-year-old recently laid a beating on Thomas Mattice, cruising his way to a wide unanimous decision victory.

Ford knows he’s one of the best fighters in the world but he’s currently walking around beltless. It doesn’t sit well with him that he doesn't have any new hardware to hold onto. So while he would love the chance to fight Davis and make life-changing money, he’d be mendacious if he said that’s the number one thing fueling him.

“Yeah, I think anything is possible,” continued Ford when asked if Davis could be an opponent in the near future. “But my main focus is what’s going on at 130.”
