Another contender in a stacked junior welterweight division has emerged. Oscar Duarte's relentless motor helped him outwork a more accurate hometown hopeful Kenneth Sims Jr during their 12-round WBA junior welterweight title eliminator to headline an exciting bill at the University of Illinois-Chicago's Credit Union 1 Arena live on DAZN.

Before their high-stakes main event, where the stock of both have subsequently risen, four undercard bouts unfolded with the co-feature similarly exceeding expectations in a thrilling ten-round tussle of former world champions Regis Prograis and Joseph "JoJo" Diaz seeking a late-career resurgence.

A crossroads bout between two former world champions went above and beyond expectations, as Regis Prograis won a 10-round unanimous decision over Joseph “JoJo” Diaz in one of 2025's best fights to date.

Mike Fitzgerald’s scorecard was the widest and the most controversial of the trio, scoring it 98-92. The other two judges, Cassandra Lewis and Nathan Palmer, both had it 96-94.

Prograis outlanded Diaz 224-to-197 in total punches. Diaz had a clear advantage in power punches landed, connecting with 173 power shots compared to Prograis' 137.

The fireworks began early, as Diaz rocked Prograis late in the first round with a short left hand. Diaz ramped up the pressure as Prograis tried to recover, but the former two-time champion made it to the end of the round.

After the win, Prograis said he'd be open to a rematch if a title was on the line or if it was for the right amount of money. Former junior lightweight titlist Diaz believed he did more than enough to win seven or eight of the ten rounds during their 143lb catchweight contest.

At range, Prograis (30-3, 24 KOs) had the upper hand behind his jab, straight left hand and clear hand speed advantage. When Diaz (34-8-1, 15 KOs) closed the gap, he consistently connected with short left hands that swung the momentum in his favor. In seemingly every round, the pair took turns trading and landing big shots from the range best suiting them.

The drama heightened in the fourth round when Prograis and Diaz’s heads collided for an accidental headbutt. Diaz suffered a cut on the outside of his left eye, which remained a bloody mess for much of the fight's duration.

As the fight continued, Prograis’ speed and reach advantage helped him pull ahead. Still, Diaz responded every time and appeared to rock the former two-time junior welterweight champion on numerous occasions. Then Diaz’s persistent work rate and ability to land the bigger shots helped him seize control of the fight.

Diaz and Prograis alternated having control of their brutal slugfest, with many of the rounds being too close to score, as they both looked to make one final push for another big fight in the latter stages of their careers.

Ultimately, Prograis’ cleaner work at range was enough to earn him his first win since June 2023. However, Diaz was left with nothing to hang his head over.

Tristan Kalkreuth notched his eighth straight win, as Devonte Williams quit on his stool after the second round in a 10-round cruiserweight bout.

Kalkreuth (16-1, 11 KOs) dropped Williams (13-3, 6 KOs) with a left hook to the body in the second round, and after he was given an extended amount of time to recover, made it to the end of the round. Between the second and third rounds, Williams opted not to continue.

Williams was a late-replacement opponent for Kareem Hackett (12-1, 6 KOs) during the week of the fight.

Joshua Edwards made quick work of Cayman Audie, stopping him with one minute and 31 seconds left in the first round. Edwards (4-0, 4 KOs) has now won three straight fights by first-round stoppage.

Edwards dropped Audie (4-2, 2 KOs) with a straight right hand before the one-minute mark. From there, the 2024 Olympian landed blistering shots and counter punches before referee Ben Rodriguez was left with no choice but to intervene and stop the fight.

Mexico light-heavyweight Yair Gallardo (10-0, 8 KOs) delivered a dominant showing to defeat Quinton Rankin by unanimous decision in their eight-round contest. Gallardo won 80-71 and 79-72 twice across the three judges’ scorecards to stay perfect as a pro.

Eight rounds is now the furthest Gallardo has gone in his career. The 22-year-old's nonstop pressure and volume gradually broke Rankin (21-10-2, 16 KOs) down as the fight progressed. Gallardo knocked Rankin down in the sixth round with a left hook to the body.

Maryland lightweight hopeful Mehki Phillips (7-0, 7 KOs) wasted no time in his third six-round contest, blasting out Joseph Brown (12-15, 7 KOs) as the two-year pro's stoppage streak continues.

Mexico's 20-year-old junior featherweight prospect Gael Cabrera improves to 9-0 with six knockouts. Of his six knockouts, four have come in the first round as he inflicted a career-first defeat for Cuba's Reyes Diaz (3-1-1, 2 KOs).
