Hugely talented Japanese standout Reito Tsutsumi announced he would be turning professional earlier this week.
Tsutsumi, who is the younger brother of fast rising junior lightweight Hayato (6-0, 3 knockouts), will be promoted by Shisei Promotions and turn professional at featherweight in May.
"Since I was a child, I have dreamed of competing in the professional boxing world," Tsutsumi told The Ring. "Becoming a world champion is just a stepping stone — if I'm going to do this, I want to be the best.
"My ultimate goal is to become the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world."
It appears Tsutsumi has already has caught the attention of one boxing's top brass, as the head of Riyadh Season - Turki Alalshikh - praised the young fighter on social media.
Tsutsumi, who is a southpaw from Chiba City, was an elite amateur going an impressive 59-2.
He won five high school national titles, claimed gold at the World Youth Championships in Kielce, Poland in 2021 and the All-Japanese University championships in 2023.
Such is his standing in Japanese circles, he'll be given an A class license, which so far has only been reserved for former WBA middleweight titlist Ryoya Murata, who claimed gold at the 2012 London Olympics and Tomoya Tsuboi another outstanding prospect who recently made his debut.
Tsutsumi looks like the latest in a long line of top fighters coming off the conveyor belt in the talent rich country.
