It doesn’t matter to Richardson Hitchins who George Kambosos Jr. fights Saturday night in Sydney.

The unbeaten IBF junior welterweight champion will briefly become one of Kambosos’ biggest fans because he wants to box Kambosos next. Now that Teofimo Lopez has been scheduled to square off against Arnold Barboza Jr. as part of The Ring’s “FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves” card May 2 at Times Square in New York, Hitchins has his sights set on defeating the only opponent who has toppled Lopez in the Ring/WBO junior welterweight champ’s pro career.

Brooklyn’s Hitchins hopes to bring Kambosos back to the site of Kambosos’ greatest night, The Theater at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, if the former unified lightweight champion gets past countryman Jake Wyllie at Qudos Bank Arena. The 27-year-old Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs) discussed Kambosos during DAZN’s stream Saturday night from Orlando, Florida, where middleweight contender Austin “Ammo” Williams defeated Montreal’s Patrice Volny by unanimous decision in the 12-round main event.

“Hopefully, I get to shut his mouth,” Hitchins said. “You know, he been talking a lot about me on the Internet, saying I’ll never be world champion, saying I’m not on the level of the guys he fought. I think when he gets the victory [Saturday night], me and him have to fight. Imma bring him to New York and Imma make a massacre outta him. Imma do to him what Teo couldn’t do to him in New York.”

Wyllie (16-1, 15 KOs, 1 NC) replaced Indonesia’s Daud Yordan (43-4, 31 KOs) as Kambosos’ opponent on Monday due to Yordan’s undisclosed illness.

Warwick’s Wyllie, 24, is 13 years younger than Yordan, but he was upset by third-round technical knockout by Faavesi Isaako in February 2023. Brisbane’s Isaako (3-5, 2 KOs) was 0-2 entering his fight with Wyllie.

Sydney’s Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) is therefore heavily favored to win his first fight since Ukrainian southpaw Vasiliy Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) stopped him in the 11th round last May 12 at RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

The 31-year-old Kambosos is 1-3 since he upset Las Vegas’ Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) by split decision in November 2021 at The Theater. The former IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO champ’s only win during that span was a majority-decision victory over British southpaw Maxi Hughes in a closely contested 10-rounder in July 2023 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

DAZN’s worldwide coverage of the card headlined by Kambosos-Wyllie is scheduled to begin Saturday at 8 a.m. GMT in the United Kingdom and 4 a.m. ET/1 a.m. PT in the United States.
