Lamont Roach and Raymond Muratalla are on a collision course if they can win their next fights Aug. 1.
Roach faces William Zepeda for the vacant WBC lightweight title in the main event, while Muratalla will defend his IBF belt against Robson Conceicao in the co-main event at The Theater at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas. The fights will be broadcast in the United States on TNT and truTV and will also be available worldwide on DAZN.
Should Roach emerge victorious, the Washington, D.C. native is more than open to a unification bout in his next fight with Muratalla provided he wins, too.
“We would love to have that fight,” Roach said on the latest episode of Inside The Ring, which aired Monday on DAZN. “I know that fight would probably be for a Ring Magazine title or something like that. It's a lot at stake at 135, and I want to fulfill that.
“We're not worried about what Muratalla brings. He's a tremendous fighter, but he’s got to deal with me.”
DAZN’s Chris Mannix reported on May 30 that the plan is for the winners of Roach-Zepeda and Muratalla-Conceicao to face each other next.
Roach (25-1-3, 10 KOs) said Muratalla (24-0, 17 KOs) was an option for his last fight, but it fell through. Roach, 30, instead fought to a majority draw against Isaac Cruz on Dec. 6, while Muratalla, 29, won a majority decision against Andy Cruz in his first title defense on Jan. 24.
Muratalla, of West Covina, California, is The Ring’s No. 2 lightweight.
Roach, who previously held the WBA 130-pound title, is coming off consecutive majority draws. Before facing Cruz, he fought to a controversial majority draw against Gervonta “Tank” Davis for his WBA lightweight title in March 2025..
Having dealt with the disappointment of back-to-back draws, Roach believes he has to seek a stoppage against a relentless pressure fighter like Zepeda (33-1, 27 KOs). The Mexican southpaw is The Ring’s No. 3 lightweight and is getting his second shot at the WBC title.
Zepeda, 30, lost to then-WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson by unanimous decision in his last fight on July 12 in New York. Given Zepeda's work rate, Roach knows he’ll have to set the tone early and control the fight if he’s going to become a two-division world champion.
“If a guy within this pressure doesn't respect you, then it's going to be an easy night for them,” Roach said. “When I tell you that he's going to respect every single bit of what's going on over here, I promise you, he will.”
