Two fights, two wins under the Zuffa Boxing banner for Julian Rodriguez.
Rodriguez extended his win streak to six with a one-sided unanimous decision over the previously unbeaten James Perella in a 10-round welterweight bout, the co-main event of Zuffa Boxing 06 at Meta Apex Center in Las Vegas on Paramount+.
Rodriguez won 100-89, 98-91 and 98-91.
The main event is a 10-round middleweight bout between Serhii Bohachuk and Shane Mosley Jr.
The first three rounds lacked a significant moment as Rodriguez, 5-foot-8, was trying to navigate a 6½-inch height and reach disadvantage, while the 6-2½ Perella looked to maintain range.
Rodriguez (26-1, 15 KOs) set the tone early in the fourth round when he landed a hard overhand right. He continued to connect with power shots, then dropped Perella (21-1, 15 KOs) for the first time in his career with a right hand, followed up with a leaping left hook.
The action slowed again in the fifth, but Rodriguez started to find success in the sixth. The majority of his best work was to the body, and he was able to punch through Perella’s guard upstairs with power shots late in the round, which prompted referee Robert Hoyle to tell him to show something.
The action slowed and fell into a pattern for the duration of the fight, as Rodriguez stayed on the front foot and landed the cleaner shots, though they weren’t as consequential as the punches he landed in the fourth and sixth rounds. Perella was content to try to fight from the outside or stick and move in the final four rounds.
