Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez has ruled out any claims of plans for a showdown with Nonito Donaire.

The rumored all-legends clash made the media rounds over the weekend, but was quickly dismissed by the Nicaraguan legend. The suggested pairing of former four-division champs is not in play, nor of any interest to a fighter in search of at least one more major title.

"[W]e want to inform our Fans that we have NO INTEREST AT ALL of fighting @filipinoflash, nor are we in talks with his team," Gonzalez declared on X. "He has no [t]itle or ANYTHING that interest[s] us, therefore we wish him luck in [r]etirement. God bless."

Clearly, each side is confused about the other's plans.

Gonzalez (52-4, 42 knockouts) offered the post on Monday in response to aBoxingScene story claiming such a fight was in play. In fairness, Donaire (42-8, 28 KOs) disclosed his doubts over the fight ever seeing the light of day.

"I don't know if it's going to come through, but we're talking," Donaire told BoxingScene over the weekend.

It's not.

That said, Donaire is not officially retired. The 41-year-old Fil-Am superstar is in the twilight of his incredible career but seeks at least one more big fight. It's understandable why he'd target Gonzalez. Former IBF flyweight titlist Sunny Edwards (21-1, 4 KOs) has also caught his attention. That desired matchup was born more so from a social media between his wife, Rachel and the diminutive Brit.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez's aim to fight for a major title by his next fight, whether at 115 or 118.

The former pound-for-pound king enjoyed a triumphant return in aJuly 12 knockout win over Rober Barrera. The bout was his first since 2015 to take place in his hometown of Managua, Nicaragua.

It also ended a 19-month hiatus. Gonzalez dropped a majority decision defeat to Juan Francisco Estrada (44-4, 28 KOs) in their memorable Dec. 2022 rubber match in Glendale, Arizona. Estrada defended his RING 115-pound championship and reclaimed his WBC belt at the weight. The Mexican icon previously edged Gonzalez via disputed split decision in their March 2021 RING/WBC/WBA unification bout in Dallas, Texas.

Gonzalez's return was an advertised bantamweight bout. However, he weighed light enough (116.8 pounds) to where it was believed that a return to junior bantamweight could be in play for the right opportunity.

The truth is that both answers are correct. Gonzalez is only interested in fighting for another major title, which his team firmly believes will come in his next ring appearance.
