It was bloody, gruesome, and sometimes hard to watch, but for Ryan Rozicki, it was his dream fight.
The 31-year-old was violently beaten by Chris Billam-Smith and his corner waved things off at the end of the seventh round on Saturday at Bournemouth International Centre in the main event of Zuffa Boxing 07, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Although he looked a bloody mess, had cuts over both eyes and had to be taken away on a stretcher before going to hospital, Rozicki (21-2-1, 20 KOs) enjoyed every minute of it.
“I always said I'd rather be stopped in an exciting fight than win a boring one,” Rozicki said on Instagram. “Congrats to Chris Billam-Smith and his team, an absolute honour to share the ring. A true world champion and absolute gentleman. We both ended up in the hospital. I wish you nothing but the best. Enjoy your family time now champ.”
Rozicki, who fell to No. 8 in The Ring’s cruiserweight rankings, was recently released from the hospital and is now planning his next move.
For most, rest and relaxation seem like the best choice, but for Rozicki, he wants to get back in the mix as soon as possible.
“Thank you to Zuffa Boxing for giving me the opportunity to have the kind of fight I been wanting for many years,” Rozicki continued. “I would have went to the death last night but my coach made the decision that I will never protest. My corner saw something they didn't like even though we all know I would have kept going to the end. Live to fight another day. I hope everyone enjoyed the fight. Like I said, it was going to be violent and I believe that it was. Dana White, I'm ready to go again.”
