The undefeated ‘Piranha’ from Southampton claimed the vacant belt via a unanimous decision victory over Salvador Jimenez on March 1 and now his first defence has been secured by Queensberry Promotions.
LONDON, England — Ryan Garner will defend his European super featherweight title against British and Commonwealth champion Reece Bellotti at the Bournemouth International Centre on July 26.
The undefeated "Piranha" from Southampton claimed the vacant belt via a unanimous decision victory over Salvador Jimenez on March 1 and his first defence has been secured by Queensberry Promotions.
Back at the scene of his victory over Jimenez, Garner (17-0, 8 KOs) will take on Watford danger man Bellotti (20-5, 15 KOs) in a voluntary defence of his belt.
Bellotti, 34, appeared to be on the wane during a run of five defeats in seven fights, which culminated in a third-round knockout defeat against Raymond Ford in August 2021.
But he has roared back, racking up six straight victories including a 10th-round stoppage of Michael Gomez Jr in his last outing.
He claimed the Commonwealth super-featherweight title by stopping Aqib Fiaz in October 2023 and added the British title to his collection when he outpointed Liam Dillon in London four months later.
And Bellotti will put both of his belts on the line when he challenges for the European title for the first time in his career.
“It’s a great fight with three belts on the line” the show’s promoter Frank Warren told The Ring. “Garner is on a roll at the moment but he’s fighting a good fighter who can sell tickets. There will be a great atmosphere in there and I’m looking forward to it.”
The Ring also has learned that unbeaten prospect Royston Barney-Smith (14-0, 7 KOs) will challenge for the first titles of his career in the show's chief support.
The 21-year-old is considered one of the most exciting talents in Britain and has barely put a foot wrong during his career.
But he will face the toughest test in the form of Warwickshire’s Danny Quartermaine (12-0-1, 4 KOs) as a result of his technical draw, caused by an accidental head clash, after two rounds against Jack Bateson in December.
Quartermaine, 27, will put his IBF European and WBO European titles on the line against Barney-Smith.
