Facing Alvarez figures to be an incredibly difficult task. But, the best fighter to ever put on a pair of gloves will be ready to rock and roll, according to Stevenson.
From Floyd Mayweather to Muhammad Ali to Mike Tyson, Shakur Stevenson has watched tape of many all-time greats.
“He’s the G.O.A.T. [Greatest Of All Time],” Stevenson told Daily Mail Boxing.
Stevenson has been singing Crawford’s praises for years, but come Saturday night he believes naysayers will have no choice but to agree with him.
In a little more than 12 hours, Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) will be standing across from Canelo Alvarez at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, streamed worldwide on Netflix at 9 p.m. ET.
Context is important. Crawford, 37, is making his super middleweight debut as he moves up two weight classes. With a win, the Omaha, Nebraska, native would become a five-division champion and the first three-division undisputed male champion.
Stevenson has a number of accolades, but Crawford’s trophy collection is another level. Although he’s picking Crawford to win, he knows that Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) is an all-time great as well.
The 35-year-old is coming off a lackluster outing against William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, but did just enough to eke out the win. Crawford grabbed the WBA junior middleweight title at the expense of Israil Madrimov in August 2024.
Facing Alvarez figures to be an incredibly difficult task. But, the best fighter to ever put on a pair of gloves will be ready to rock and roll, according to Stevenson.
“The G.O.A.T. is ready,” he said. “You’re gonna see the best version of Terence Crawford. He's the G.O.A.T. to me. Even before this fight, he was the G.O.A.T."
