Shakur Stevenson never overlooks an opponent.
Doing so would potentially lead to defeat, a word which doesn't register with the extremely competitive Stevenson.
With that said, his upcoming fight against Teofimo Lopez on ‘The Ring 6’ has him even more focused than normal.
“I put in so much work this camp,” Stevenson said on a self-recorded video posted on his Instagram account.
Officially, the two will throw down on January 31, in New York’s Madison Square Garden. Stevenson, who currently holds the lightweight division’s WBC championship, is temporarily abandoning his throne in an attempt to take home Lopez’s Ring and WBO 140-pound titles.
Despite making his super lightweight debut, Stevenson is the favorite heading in. The Ring's No. 7 fighter made it look easy against William Zepeda in the co-main event slot on Ring III last July. That victory, and the manner in which he got it done, has him in the position he’s in today.
Ultimately, when it comes to talent, Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) knows he’s on the elite level. However, he also knows how good Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs) is.
The enigmatic and unpredictable two-division champ put on a show against Arnold Barboza Jr. on The Ring's Times Square card last May. Essentially, it was an easy night's work for Lopez as he cruised to a unanimous decision.
With Ring 6 inching closer and closer, Stevenson isn’t slowing down in training camp. The 2016 Olympic silver medalist has been begging for a big opportunity and is convinced he’s done everything in his power to pick up the biggest win of his career.
For Stevenson, considering the arduous work he’s put in, he’s simply hoping that Lopez has done the same.
“Teo better be ready,” Stevenson said.
“The Ring 6” is available via pay-per-view for $69.99 in the United States and £24.99 in the United Kingdom. It is included for subscribers to DAZN’s Ultimate plan ($44.99 per month in the U.S.; £24.99 in the UK).
