All eyes were on Conor Benn Saturday night as he labored to a points win over Regis Prograis in London.
All eyes were on Conor Benn Saturday night as he labored to a points win over Regis Prograis in London.
Benn fought Prograis on the undercard of Tyson Fury-Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, live on Netflix.
However, the nature of Benn's win wasn't what most expected, as he went the full 10-round distance with Prograis, a natural 140-pounder. The fight was fought at 150 pounds and all three scorecards read 98-92 in favor of the Brit, who took some heavy shots during the bout.
Three of American boxing's biggest stars in Shakur Stevenson, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney, all potential opponents for Benn, were unimpressed with what they saw.
After Stevenson's victory over Teofimo Lopez on January 31, the four-division champion called Benn into the ring, who obliged and got into a verbal exchange with Stevenson.
Even though Benn called out Ryan Garcia for a shot at his WBC welterweight title after beating Prograis, Stevenson remains an option.
"If he makes it 12 rounds with me I’ll be disappointed in myself," Stevenson wrote on X. "U see he fighting a southpaw, who he getting ready for?"
Stevenson's tweet caught the attention of Turki Alalshikh, who replied: "You’re the best in your division now no question about it."
Garcia, who won the WBC title from Mario Barrios in February, wrote: "Mark my words, his corner or the ref stops my fight with Conor in the 6-7 rounds. I’m down GARCIA VS BENN Let’s do it!!!!!!"
Haney knocked down and beat Prograis to win the WBC junior welterweight title in December 2023. He also has history with Benn, who notably feigned falling asleep during the three-division champion's unanimous decision win over Brian Norman last November.
"Conor Benn stay away," he wrote.
Whoever Benn fights next, it now almost certainly looks like it'll be against a big name.
Who should Conor Benn fight next?
