Floyd Schofield may have defeated Lucas Bahdi to win his first world title, but Shakur Stevenson won’t give either of them his approval.
“A C level fighter beat an F level fighter,” Stevenson wrote on his X account.
Schofield is the proud owner of the WBA lightweight title. He didn’t, however, win that belt easily.
In the main event slot at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, the 24-year-old picked himself up off the deck before winning a hard-fought decision.
While Schofield showed grit, Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs) questions his heart. Those sentiments stem from the fallout from their scheduled February 2025 bout. The 29-year-old southpaw from Newark, New Jersey, was supposed to defend his WBC lightweight title against Schofield in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Just four days before the bout, however, Schofield pulled out, citing illness.
Soon after, Schofield (20-0, 13 KOs) claimed that members of Stevenson’s camp “poisoned” him, which they’ve vehemently denied.
Their mutual dislike isn't enough to force them to reschedule. Stevenson campaigns one division higher and holds The Ring and WBO junior welterweight titles. He's also on the verge of fighting Devin Haney at a catchweight of 145 pounds.
A win over Haney would result in Stevenson claiming the WBO welterweight title, too.
As for Schofield, he has plans of his own. He called out WBC lightweight champion William Zepeda. and also has expressed a desire to face former WBC featherweight champion Gary Russell.
