Sultan Al-Mohammed defeats Martin Caraballo by a shutout decision in an entertaining four-round lightweight bout on the Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford card Saturday in Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS – Sultan Al-Mohammed passed the tests presented in his pro debut with flying colors by scoring a shutout four-round unanimous decision win over Martin Caraballo on the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford event Saturday at Allegiant Stadium.
Judges scored the competitive and action-packed lightweight firefight 40-36 in favor of Al-Mohammed (1-0), a 17-year-old from Saudi Arabia trained by Abel Sanchez.
Al-Mohammed certainly gained valuable experience from the bout against a very game Caraballo (0-1-1), but he wasn't entirely pleased with his performance.
“I respect him, but someone like this guy [should not be in four rounds] with me,” Al-Mohammed said. “Next time I will show better skills.”
In the first round, Al-Mohammed absorbed right hands and dialed up the aggression to charge forward and land hard combinations. His hardest shot of the round was a thudding left hook.
Caraballo countered in the second with a dedicated attack to the body. But "El Nino" Al-Mohammed started separating himself by showcasing an explosive style and continued to charge forward with a strong right hand.
At the end of the third, Al-Mohammed landed a pair of vicious left and right hands, his best sequence of the fight, but Caraballo absorbed the heavy leather admirably.
Both fighters appeared fatigued as they neared the finish line in the fourth, but it was Al-Mohammed who remained in control.
“I think it was good, but I want more. That's not me,” Al-Mohammed said. “I didn't do everything I have. Next time, you will see better than this.”
