Covington, an eight-time national champion, signed a managerial deal with Wise Owl Boxing on Wednesday and will turn pro in the coming months as a featherweight.

Covington was considered a surefire potential candidate to represent the United States in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, but the 20-year-old from Detroit is getting a head start in the professional ranks instead.

“I’m ready for the next chapter of my career,” Covington told The Ring. “I honestly feel like I have done everything there is to do in the amateurs except going to the Olympics. I want to start making my mark in the pros right now because I feel that I already have a pro-ready style and mindset.”

Covington estimated that his amateur record stands at roughly 105-15. The next order of business for Covington is to sign a promotional deal, and that’s where Wise Owl Boxing will do the heavy lifting.

“Thomas has all of the tools, discipline and talent to become a superstar,” Wise Owl Boxing founder Mark Habibi told The Ring. “Our immediate goal is to decide which promoter will be best to develop Thomas as he enters the pros.
