Teofimo Lopez wasted little time in answering Devin Haney’s question Friday afternoon on X.

Haney, one of Lopez’s contemporaries, asked why “TeHOE” didn’t accept promoter Top Rank’s offer to fight Puerto Rican power puncher Subriel Matias on March 15 in Las Vegas. Lopez rejected an offer for the Matias match last week and revealed during The Ring’s inaugural awards gala a few days later that he didn’t think fighting a former champion who has lost twice, most recently seven months ago, and on pay-per-view, was the smartest move for his career.

Las Vegas’ Lopez also revealed during his X exchange with Haney that Top Rank presented a $2.8 million guarantee for the Matias match. The Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion deemed almost $3 million unacceptable and made a counteroffer Bob Arum and his executives never seriously considered.

In response to Haney’s antagonistic inquiry, Lopez responded, “Because TR wanted to host it on the West Coast when it should be in NYC, forced it to be on PPV, and, lastly, offered 2.8M’s when I AM the last star power they have left. All roads are leaning toward Keyshawn as their next pupil.”

Lopez concluded his message by stating, “Inshallah, I can fight you now!”

Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) referenced Keyshawn Davis (12-0, 8 KOs, 1 NC), who will challenge Ukraine’s Denys Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) for the WBO lightweight title in a main event ESPN will televise February 14 from The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. Davis, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Lopez are promoted by Arum’s company.

The Brooklyn-born Lopez has been linked to fights with Haney and Ryan Garcia since they all attended The Ring’s awards event last weekend.

Turki Alalshikh, who owns The Ring and negotiates many of the highest-profile fights in boxing as the head of Riyadh Season, revealed Wednesday night, though, that Haney (31-0, 15 KOs, 1 NC) and Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs, 1 NC) will partake in separate bouts on the same card in May. If Haney, of Henderson, Nevada, and Garcia, of Victorville, California, win their respective contests against opponents to be named, they would advance to a highly anticipated welterweight rematch sometime in October.

Haney, 26, is The Ring’s number one contender for Lopez’s 140-pound championship. The former undisputed lightweight champ once owned the WBC 140-pound championship, but he now considers himself a welterweight.

Lopez, 27, hasn’t fought since he soundly defeated Canadian veteran Steve Claggett (39-8-2, 27 KOs) by unanimous decision in their 12-rounder June 29 at James L. Knight Center in Miami Beach, Florida.
