Terence Crawford's trainer, Brian "Bomac" McIntyre, believes Canelo Alvarez's legacy is set in stone, but he'd like to see the Mexican star fight a few more times.
What is Canelo Alvarez's next move?
Brian "Bomac" McIntyre has no idea after his man, Terence Crawford, outpointed the Mexican star to become undisputed super middleweight champion Saturday in Las Vegas.
What McIntyre does know, however, is that Alvarez’s legacy is already cemented. And he wants to see the future Hall of Famer fight again.
“Rest up, back in the gym, assess where you're at,” McIntyre told The Ring, referring to Alvarez. “But look, the man has nothing to prove.”
Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) is only 35, but with nearly 70 professional fights under his belt, the pound-for-pound star admitted that his body doesn’t feel like it once did.
Still, when you talk to him, he doesn’t sound like someone who’s looking to make an exit. He still has a passion for the sport, a passion that has allowed him to become one of the top fighters of his era.
For his last handful of fights, Alvarez has worked closely with Turki Alalshikh. Both sides have expressed interest in continuing that partnership, as well.
From McIntyre’s point of view, Alvarez should have a few more bouts. He should also continue to fatten his bank account along the way.
“Just get what you can out of the sport. Your legacy is already cemented,” McIntyre said. “If you've got two dollars or 200 million left on your contract, get what you can and get out.
"I'd love to see him fight again if he has a little more left in the tank, but I don't care [about specific opponents], because he doesn't need to fight.”
