Whether it was King Kong, Godzilla, or his opponent Floyd Schofield Jr last Saturday night, Tevin Farmer never believed for a minute he would lose.

The former world champion promised to make Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) look silly at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. But, for those who decided to grab a snack during the opening seconds of the fight, they'd have been left kicking themselves upon their return.

Farmer (33-9-1, 8 KOs) never got a chance to get warmed up. And, according to him, he was never given an opportunity to get himself back in the fight after two knockdowns and a referee stoppage just 78 seconds into the contest.

“I felt the referee stepped in way too early,” Farmer wrote on his Instagram account. “As a champion and an elite fighter, I deserved the chance to fight through it, to show what I had.”

Farmer will now have to look in the mirror. Of his nine losses, his recent four have all come consecutively. On a bright note, however, he can point to those defeats and tell his doubters to take a look at the names. Raymond Muratalla is the lightweight division’s IBF champion, and William Zepeda is a highly-ranked contender and could be one win away from grabbing a world title. And of course, there’s Schofield, a talented 22-year-old who may also find himself competing for world honours soon enough.

Speaking of the latter, Farmer is putting some stock in Schofield’s future. Although he didn’t want things to play out the way they did, he can take solace in knowing that Schofield is one of the sport's rising stars.

“The ref made his decision," Farmer continued. "But if it had to be anybody across from me that night, I’m glad it was Floyd Schofield. A talented young man and a great kid. I got nothing but respect.”
