War seems certain to break out in Wolverhampton on Saturday night.
The aggressive, uncompromising Conah Walker (17-3-1, 8 KOs) will meet the equally aggressive and uncompromising Sam Eggington (36-9, 20 KOs) over 12 rounds.
Their headline attraction in the West Midlands will take place at a catchweight of 153 pounds.
Always respected on the domestic scene, Walker made his name in June 2024 when he gave current IBF welterweight champion Lewis Crocker all he could handle over 10 brutal rounds.
Although he lost a close unanimous decision, his exciting performance made the 30-year-old from Wolverhampton must-see television and he went on to enjoy an outstanding 2025 campaign.
Walker started his year by coming from behind to beat the awkward British and Commonwealth welterweight champion Harry Scarff in the 11th round and then won a firefight with Liam Taylor in seven rounds. In December, he capped off an outstanding year by stopping unbeaten Olympian Pat McCormack in the 12th and final round.
Walker has since relinquished his titles and is now on the hunt for big names and big fights.
For a brief period of time, Walker thought he had secured a world title rematch with Crocker but boxing politics forced his team to pivot.
Once it was decided that he would return home to headline the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, the search went out for a suitable opponent and although he has spent years campaigning at junior middleweight, it was decided that Eggington fit the bill perfectly.
In some respects, Walker has stepped into Eggington's shoes.
The Smethwick man's story is well known. After losing his job as a forklift truck driver, he decided to turn professional and become a journeyman, picking up as many paydays as possible.
He ended up winning the British, Commonwealth and European titles while his crowd-pleasing style and down-to-earth nature made him a firm favorite with British fight fans.
These days, Eggington doesn't carry the same profile but his reduced level of activity has probably prolonged his career. He is still only 32 years old and has lost only twice over the past six years.
A homebody, Eggington admits that he struggled with a long trip to Australia and was a shadow of himself during a majority decision loss to Dennis Hogan in October 2022.
In March 2024 he was back to his old self and dragged future WBA junior middleweight champion Abass Baraou into a fight of the year candidate before losing another majority decision.
Eggington will relish the idea of meeting somebody like Walker head-on. He is the naturally taller man and will be confident of being able to take and hold the centre of the ring. That won’t be easy.
Backed by a passionate home support, Walker will be extremely difficult to tame. He is a confident, lively character riding the crest of a wave. He isn't in the slightest bit concerned by the thought of fighting a bigger man and won't alter his all-or-nothing style either.
Fantasy
The Ring's Mike Coppinger and Max Kellerman have made their predictions. Think you can beat them? Predict winners for prizes.
They said it
Conah Walker: "Listen, if he wants to go toe-to-toe, we can go toe-to-toe. Do you know what I mean? I'll beat him any way he wants to fight me.
"It's just on him which way he wants to get beat. I'm not overly arsed about how he wants to fight. If he wants to box me then I'll just walk you down and beat you up. If he wants to stand and have it, we will. It's both our bread and butter. We both love it."
Sam Eggington: "Lee Cutler and Joe Pigford both picked me for the away corner. Different fighters, different venues. Same result incoming. Conah Walker, you are next."
What are the odds?
Walker is a solid 1/4 (-400) favourite to beat Eggington, who is priced at 11/4 (+275).
Must-see fights on the undercard
Unorthodox British and Commonwealth junior middleweight champion Bilal Fawaz (11-1-1, 3 KOs) makes the first defense of his titles against Ryan Kelly (20-6-1, 8 KOs).
