Ring Magazine is stepping into the world of comics.
The Ring announced on Friday, in partnership with Dark Horse Comics, the launch of an eight-issue comics series titled “The Ring: The Man Who Beat The Man.”
The comics explore boxing’s timeless pursuit of the true champion and blend the drama of the fight game with a look inside the sport’s global chase for the top prize.
The fictional story follows veteran Ring journalist Cameron Duggan and rising broadcast personality Lisa Wolfe, a former podcaster who has transitioned into television commentary. As the pair travel the boxing world covering a new wave of contenders chasing championship glory, they encounter the ambition, rivalries and politics that shape the sport at its highest level.
Each fighter approaches the pursuit differently, but the goal remains the same: to reach the top of the sport and prove themselves as the man who beat the man. As Duggan and Wolfe document the journey of these fighters, they also find themselves navigating the pressures and personalities that surround the sport.
The comics series is produced in coordination with the editorial leadership at Ring Magazine. The first issue will be available in bookstores and comic shops on June 3, with a cover price of $4.99.
The comics are written by Gail Simone and illustrated by Elisa Romboli, with colors and lettering by Iolanda Zanfardino.
Dark Horse Comics was founded in 1986 by Mike Richardson as an offshoot of his comics retail chain, Things From Another World, and has gone on to publish the work of many of the greatest creators in the industry’s history and classics such as “Lone Wolf & Cub,” “Akira,” “Ghost in the Shell,” “Trigun,” and “Berserk.”
