Thorslund vacated her WBC and WBO titles in June 2025 after finding out she was pregnant and then had a miscarriage the following month. In late July, her friend and former featherweight title challenger Raven Chapman suffered a brain injury during a sparring session, from which she's recovering.

Everything she endured and the emotions she had bottled up came out when she beat Cherneka Johnson to become the undisputed bantamweight champion on Saturday in the main event of MVPW 05 at Caribe Royale.

“I had a miscarriage,” Thorslund said in her post-fight press conference. “I had to give up my titles. Now, I have a friend in the hospital. I have a son who didn't want to be with me because I'm hangry. So, it's been a lot. It really has. But when you're standing here, it's all coming [together] and [has] been worth it.”

Thorslund (25-0, 9 KOs), The Ring’s No. 7-ranked fighter pound-for-pound, won 100-90 on all three judges' scorecards. The Dane entered the bout with The Ring title, while Johnson (19-3, 8 KOs) held the IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO belts.

“Every belt has been satisfying, and when I was unified as well, but because of this whole year, this has just been the greatest satisfaction,” Thorslund said. “It's the past year looking back that's made it so much bigger than the other things. Especially with Raven, it's more than boxing. It's honoring a friend and honoring the connection we have and the work we did together.”

Thorslund was one step ahead throughout the night as she thoroughly outboxed Johnson. She was able to dart in and out of range and land the cleaner shots through and around her Australian opponent’s guard.

Johnson tried to press forward late and had some success, but she couldn’t sustain enough offense to turn the tide. Thorslund outlanded Johnson 150 to 89 in total punches, and 103 to 62 in power shots, according to CompuBox.

“I love the sport,” Thorslund said about what kept her going the past year. “I've been here for so many years, and I worked my ass off to get here. This has been the dream all the way.”
