The Ring's No. 5 bantamweight Tiah Ayton has set her sights on a domestic rivalry with Boxxer’s rising star Francesca Hennessy.
Ayton has already emerged as a burgeoning knockout artist in the pro ranks after winning her first four fights inside the distance.
She goes again on Saturday night in Nottingham as part of the undercard for Leigh Wood’s rematch with Josh Warrington live on DAZN.
Ayton, 19, is scheduled to face Brazilian Catherine Tacone Ramos in a scheduled eight-rounder in her latest fight against an international opponent.
But the "Star Girl" from Bristol is already assessing the landscape for domestic opponents - and believes Hennessy (8-0, 1 KO) will fit the bill eventually.
“I definitely think our paths will cross and she will be my rival at one point,” Ayton told The Ring. “If we're in the same weight class and she's winning belts and I'm winning belts, there's only going to be one world champion and one of us has got to win it.”

Hennessy has a perfect record as a professional and has been pushed hard by Boxxer, who elevated her to the headline slot live on the BBC on January 31 when the scheduled main event between Adam Azim and Gustavo Daniel Lemos was cancelled due to injury. The 21-year-old from Sevenoaks, who is the daughter of former boxing promoter Mick, claimed a majority decision after 10 competitive rounds against Ellie Bouttell that night, moving her closer to a shot at the WBC bantamweight title. Ayton added: “We have seen over the years that women’s boxing needs rivalries so it’s a good thing for someone in my division to be making a name for herself.
“It’s great because we can both thrive off each other and make any fight between us even bigger.” The pair already have common opponents in Laura Belen Valdebenito and Ana Karla Vaz De Moraes, who Hennessy beat on points. However, big-punching Ayton took them out in rounds four and three respectively. Ayton added: “I feel like I never get enough credit because everyone I've fought as a pro now have all beaten people or have given people good fights

. “I've just gone in and stopped them but everyone in the comments says ‘when will we see her have a step-up?’ But every fight I've had is a step-up. I've never fought anyone that's won once and lost 32 times. All the girls I've fought have never been stopped and they've fought good people. The last girl I fought had a close fight with Fran Hennessy and I just went in there and stopped her in the third round.” Despite being only 19, Ayton estimates she’s had a total of around 350 fights across various disciplines and, given she went 21-0 as an amateur boxer before turning professional, she is still yet to taste defeat in her chosen sport. But even she admits her fight-ending power has come as a surprise to her in a women’s code not famous for knockouts. “I've been fighting for a long time," she said. "I've done MMA, Muay Thai, kickboxing and I always knew I had power. "Even in the amateurs I was stopping fights but it’s easier there because once their head snaps back they get a count.
“In the pros it’s a lot harder and, although I’ve always known I was strong I didn’t know I was this strong. But knockouts make me stand out from the crowd and that’s what I plan on doing.”
