It took Tim Tszyu a while to process exactly what happened.

In seemingly a blink of an eye, he went from highly thought of titleholder to journeyman status. It may seem unfair but after losing his WBO strap to Sebastian Fundora, and being violently stopped by Bakhram Murtazaliev, Tszyu’s name and star power have taken a huge hit.

Physically, Tszyu (24-2, 17 KOs) went back to the drawing board and worked on his game but mentally, that took a bit more time. Taking things day by day was the only route available to him. Some days were more difficult than others but after taking the time to process what happened and move on, he believes his mental is currently on point.

“I’m good,” said Tszyu to a group of reporters. “My life is good, I’m happy.”

His happiness might be transient if the results don’t follow. This Saturday night, he’ll get a chance to prove that his prudent work has paid off.

In front of his Australian crowd, Tszyu will welcome Joseph Spencer to the ring. Presently, Tszyu is in the early stages of his rebuild. Spencer, however, is well into his. Following a stoppage loss to Jesus Ramos, Spencer has picked up three straight victories.

His win streak, ultimately, is cute according to Tszyu but his run will go no further. For the 30-year-old, he has to do a number on Spencer, not just win a controversial decision. If he does, he’ll place himself back on track. Although his career has taken a detour down the wrong path, he believes that he’s still young enough and talented enough to reach the top of the junior middleweight mountain.

“I’m very hungry and very determined," continued Tszyu. "I’ve made long-time goals from a young age and I want to get to that very top.”
