Turki Alalshkih told The Ring’s Mike Coppinger that the Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford fight will now take place, Sept. 13, which is a Saturday. The original date for their 12-round super middleweight championship clash was Sept. 12.
The date, location and platform for the biggest boxing match of 2025 all changed Tuesday.
Turki Alalshikh told The Ring’s Mike Coppinger that the Canelo Alvarez-Terence Crawford fight will now take place, Sept. 13, which is a Saturday. The original date for their 12-round super middleweight championship clash was Sept. 12.
Alalshikh also said that the venue, previously announced as Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, is to be determined.
The head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority noted that the site will be chosen from five venues overall in Las Vegas, Los Angeles and New York.
Netflix was going to stream Alvarez-Crawford and part of its undercard, though that, too, is up in the air.
Alalshikh issued a statement Tuesday night on X that addressed the new developments.
“I will announce at the right time when and where the big fight [between] Canelo and Crawford,” Alalshikh wrote, “and which platform!”
Assuming Netflix doesn’t stream Alvarez-Crawford, it would headline a pay-per-view show in the United States and United Kingdom.
Alvarez, 34, and Crawford, 37, officially acknowledged in the ring May 4 at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that they agreed to fight next.
It was long known Crawford would move up two weight classes, but the heavily favored Alvarez needed to beat Cuba’s William Scull in a 168-pound title unification fight that was televised via pay-per-view the night of May 3 in the U.S.
Mexico’s Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) unanimously outpointed Scull (23-1, 9 KOs) in a boring bout that at least enabled him to reunify all of boxing’s super middleweight titles. He will defend his Ring, IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO belts against Crawford, a fellow four-division champion from Omaha, Nebraska.
Crawford, who is ranked No. 3 on The Ring’s pound-for-pound list, will end a 13-month layoff when he squares off against Alvarez.
Guadalajara’s Alvarez dropped one spot on The Ring’s pound-for-pound list, from seventh to eighth, following his pedestrian performance versus Scull.
