Two of Anthony Joshua's closest friends were the passengers killed in a car crash in Nigeria on Monday, it's been confirmed.
A Lexus SUV, which was carrying two-time heavyweight champion Joshua, collided with a stationary truck along a busy highway of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Makun, Ogun State.
"Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident in Lagos, Nigeria, earlier today," a Matchroom Boxing statement read.
"With profound sadness it has been confirmed that two close friends and team members Sina Ghami and Latif Adoyele have tragically passed away.
"Matchroom Boxing and 258 BXG can confirm that Anthony sustained injuries in the accident and was taken to hospital for checks and treatment. He is in stable condition and will remain there for observation.
"Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families and friends of all those affected — and we ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time.
"No further comment will be made at this time."
Ghami and Adoyele accompanied Joshua, who is said to have landed in Nigeria on Sunday, on his vacation. Hours before the crash, Joshua posted a clip of himself playing table tennis with Adoyele, better known as "Latz," on Instagram.
Ghami and Adoyele worked with Joshua on strength and conditioning and general training regimes.
Nigeria's Federal Road Safety Corps said the Lexus which crashed was "suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit."
The FRSC added the car appeared to have "lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre" before crashing into a stationary truck on the side of the road.
Joshua knocked out Jake Paul earlier this month, stopping him in the sixth round of their high-profile clash, live on Netflix. It was also widely expected he would head into 2026 in pursuit of a megafight with Tyson Fury.
The extent of Joshua's injuries are unclear, putting his immediate plans to return to the ring in doubt.
