Tyson Fury has tipped heavyweight prodigy Moses Itauma to ‘wreck’ Oleksandr Usyk should he land a world title shot.
Itauma added to his burgeoning reputation as perhaps the hottest prospect in world boxing when he scythed down Dillian Whyte inside two minutes at ANB Arena, Riyadh on Saturday night.
Thoughts have already turned towards what might be next for the Chatham star, who moved to 13-0, 11 KOs as a result of his searing victory over Whyte. Names like Otto Wallin and Jermaine Franklin have been suggested while world title opportunities could also be next for the man ranked No. 1 by the WBO.
Next in line to face undisputed champion Usyk is WBO interim champion Joseph Parker but the Ukrainian recently requested an extension on the negotiation period for that clash due to an injury.
There is a chance that Usyk will relinquish that title, which would open the door for Parker and Itauma to fight for the vacant belt. Alternatively, calls for 20-year-old Itauma to get a straight shot at Usyk are growing louder.
And one man who believes the youngster from Chatham, Kent would be too much for Usyk despite the vast experience disparity is two-time heavyweight champion Fury.
The Gypsy King, now 37, retired in the wake of his back-to-back defeats to Usyk during 2024 but has predicted that Itauma could do what he couldn’t and beat the 24-0, 15 KOs wizard - and do it in style.
“Boxing is a young man’s game like I told Wladimir Klitschko when he was 37,” Fury said on Instagram. “It’s a young man’s game and it waits for nobody.
“Moses Itauma will wreck all those old men out of the division: Usyk, AJ [Anthony Joshua], [Jarrell] Miller. Whoever is old; [Zhilei] Zhang, Luis Ortiz. All these big names of the past are all a spent force.
“Even the world champion now, who they gave my belts to, Usyk, Moses will wreck him because it’s a young man versus an old man and old men can’t mess with young men.”
