Three unbeaten opponents. Three continents. Three wins.
This is what unsung hero Uisma Lima has done with upset wins over Haro Matevosyan (RTD 10) in Germany, Sukhdeep Singh Bhatti (UD 12) in Canada and, most recently, Shervantaigh Koopman (TKO 9) in South Africa.
The aforementioned trio entered the fights with Lima with a combined record of 52-0.
Clearly unperturbed about going overseas the 32-year-old from the boxing outpost of Angola by way of Portugal, is rightly happy with the Koopman win for a couple of reasons.
"It was special to fight in Africa as it was the continent I was born on," Lima (14-1, 10 knockouts) told The Ring through manager John McFadyen. "It was a good fight against an undefeated opponent. He was very long and tricky with a good jab, but I stuck to the coach's tactics and got the job done."
The dangerous junior middleweight is unflustered about having to fight on the road and doesn't expect that to change any time soon.
"I have constantly go into fights as the away fighter, there's no boxing to speak of in Portugal and have proven myself to be more than capable," he said.
In fact, he already has his next target in his cross hairs.
"The fight that I want most is Serhii Bohachuk," he said. "He is one of the most avoided fighters in world, but I believe his style is perfect for him. He is also the WBC No. 1, and I dream of winning the WBC title."
McFadyen is in unison with his fighter, who is ranked No. 9 by the WBC.
"We are really trying to chase Bohachuk," said McFadyen. "No one wants to fight him, but we see it as a very winnable fight."
