William Zepeda wants to make sure the toughest tussle of his career gets a redo.

Zepeda is likely headed toward facing Tevin Farmer in a rematch targeted for March 29 in Cancun, Mexico for the WBC interim lightweight title, a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations told The Ring on Tuesday.

Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) and Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) fought on November 16 during Golden Boy's Latino Night show in Saudi Arabia.

Zepeda was knocked down in the close 10-round fight and sneaked away with a split decision win via scores of 95-94 and 95-94. A third judge had it scored 95-94 for Farmer. The busier Zepeda landed 259 of 778 shots compared to 193 of 587 from Farmer.

With the win, Zepeda was supposed to face WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on the February 22 event in Saudi Arabia, but the fight was canceled one week after Zepeda's win because the Mexican knockout artist suffered a left arm injury during the Farmer fight.

Stevenson is now scheduled to face Floyd Schofield Jr., while the WBC's No. 1 ranked Zepeda and Farmer will battle for an interim version of his belt.

Zepeda is ranked No. 4 by The Ring, and Farmer, a former 130-pound titleholder, is ranked No. 10.

ESPN's Salvador Rodriguez first reported that the rematch between Zepeda and Farmer was in the works.
