British former cruiserweight world champion Chris Billam-Smith is the latest Zuffa signing, the promotional company announced Monday.
Billam-Smith (21-2, 13 KOs) has signed a multi-fight deal with the company and an announcement on his return will follow in the coming weeks. His last outing came at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as part of the Chris Eubank Jr-Conor Benn I undercard last April, where he outpointed Brandon Glanton over 12 grueling rounds.
"I'm really excited by this opportunity to work with Zuffa and Sky Sports," the Bournemouth man said.
Billam Smith is a former WBO cruiserweight world champion, having made two title defenses after outpointing former gymmate Lawrence Okolie in May 2023. He dropped the belt when daring to be great in a WBO/WBA unification against Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez in November 2024 after a bruising 12-round contest.
"CBS" is likely to make his debut for Zuffa, live on Sky Sports, in June or July.
"When two powerhouses in the world of entertainment come together like this, you know it will be a success, and you want to be a part of that. This move is about proving I am the best in the world, can't wait to get back in the ring, headlining shows, live on Sky Sports," he added.
The 35-year-old is ranked highly across three sanctioning bodies, namely the IBF's No. 3-rated contender for its vacant title after Ring champion Jai Opetaia was stripped last month.
He told The Ring's Dec Taylor about his willingness to face Opetaia, having previously rebuffed advances from Golden Boy-backed Robin Safar as well as a domestic duel with Jack Massey. Now, they're in the same stable.
An all-British duel with former amateur rival and newly-minted European titleholder Viddal Riley (14-0, 7 KOs) could be ordered for world honors after the latter's comfortable points win over Mateusz Masternak on April 4.
Riley is currently in preliminary talks for a shot at WBC beltholder Noel Mikaelian (28-3, 12 KOs) but has long voiced a willingness to meet Billam-Smith in the professional ranks after solidifying his status as a genuine world-level contender.
Billam-Smith has endured an inactive spell, coinciding with his BOXXER contract winding down to a close at the end of 2025.
Having headlined five shows on Sky Sports in the UK under their promotional banner, 'The Gentleman' finally has clarity over his future again as he seeks to become a two-time world champion.
