Jermall Charlo has injured himself at training camp, leading to his withdrawal from his Oct. 17 return against Koen Mazoudier, sources tell The Ring.
Former titleholder Jose Armando Resendiz is replacing Charlo in the 10-round super middleweight bout at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The fight will open the DAZN on TNT tripleheader headlined by Sebastian Fundora's title defense.
It's a strong replacement on 10 days' notice.
Resendiz-Mazoudier shapes up as an action fight between two aggressive 168-pounders.
Details of Charlo's injury weren't immediately available.
Resendiz (16-3, 11 KOs), a 27-year-old who trains in South Gate, California, is coming off a title loss to Jaime Munguia in May. Munguia won a lopsided unanimous decision (120-108, 119-109, 117-111) in Las Vegas to capture the WBA 168-pound title in Resendiz's first defense.
Resendiz won the WBA interim title with a split-decision upset of Caleb Plant, a -2500 favorite, in May 2025 on the same card as Charlo's last fight, to earn The Ring's 2025 Upset of the Year. He was elevated to full champion Jan. 1.
Mazoudier (16-4-1, 6 KOs), a 31-year-old from Blacktown, Australia, has won four straight since a ninth-round TKO loss to Nikita Tszyu in August 2024. He won the Australian 154-pound title in that run and defended it twice.
His last fight was a majority decision (97-93, 96-94, 95-95) over Sam Beck on Aug. 26 on the Gold Coast, a victory that kept the Charlo fight alive.
Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs), 36, was originally set to fight Mazoudier on the Tim Tszyu-Errol Spence undercard in July, but he ran into a visa issue for the fight in Australia.
The former two-division champion last competed in May 2025, when he dropped Thomas LaManna three times en route to a sixth-round stoppage in Las Vegas. That victory ended an 18-month layoff.
Charlo was slated to challenge Resendiz for the WBA title, but he was pulled from the fight and replaced by Munguia.
Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KOs) defends his WBC junior middleweight title against unbeaten mandatory challenger Ermal Hadribeaj in the main event. Brandon Figueroa makes the first defense of his WBA featherweight title against Tomoki Kameda in the co-feature.
Charlo has fought just four times since 2020.
