Jermall Charlo announced on Friday that his fight against Koen Mazoudier on July 26 in Sydney, Australia, has been canceled.
Charlo, a former two-division champion from Houston, Texas, was trying to secure a visa to enter the country throughout the week but was ultimately denied.
Charlo-Mazoudier was supposed to take place on the undercard of the middleweight matchup between Errol Spence and Tim Tszyu at Afterpay Arena.
"Unfortunately, I will not be able to fight next Saturday," Charlo wrote on social media. "I've been training nonstop for the last three months and was ready to make a statement. I want to apologize to all my fans and let them know I will keep training and be back on a PBC event very soon."
Charlo also shared a thumbs down emoji toward the Australian government and said "out of my control."
On Thursday, Charlo shared footage of himself stepping on the scales weighing in at 172.3 pounds ahead of what was supposed to be a super middleweight scrap.
"In shape, on weight, and ready," he said.
Unfortunately for him, Australia wasn't ready to host him on a business trip, which was likely due to the series of legal issues Charlo has encountered in recent years.
The development is just the latest setback for the 36-year-old.
Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) has fought just four times this decade and last graced the ring in May 2025 to score a sixth-round stoppage against Thomas LaManna. He was supposed to fight two months ago against then-WBA champion Armando Resendiz, but he pulled out and opened the door for Jaime Munguia to step in and seize the title.
Charlo was expected to maul through the outmatched, career-long 154-pounder in Mazoudier (15-4-1, 6 KOs) – an opponent he was admittedly unfamiliar with – to build some momentum and make a run in a deep division.
