Talks regarding a clash between the two heavyweights have been ongoing for a while and Sky Sports reported that an agreement has finally been reached with a launch press conference set for early next week.

It will be Itauma’s first fight since his stunning fifth-round knockout of Jermaine Franklin in Manchester on March 28 and undoubtedly the toughest test of his career.

This will be Hrgovic’s fifth straight British opponent following his fights against Daniel Dubois, Joe Joyce, David Adeleye and Dave Allen. The 34-year-old was stopped by Dubois in June 2024, but he has won three on the spin since.

His most recent outing, a three-round beatdown of Allen in Doncaster, took place on May 16. Before that fight, Hrgovic (20-1, 15 KOs) had claimed that the deal to face Allen included the promise from Queensberry Promotions of a fight with Itauma (14-0, 12 KOs).

Just 105 days on from that victory, The Ring’s No. 5 heavyweight will meet No. 6 Itauma in one of the year’s most significant fights for the division.

After beating Allen, Hrgovic said: “Moses never reached the promised land. I want to fight with anyone in the division, Moses, anyone.”

Itauma, still only 21, has been hailed a future ruler of the division three years into his career. He has already stopped fringe world level contenders in Franklin, Dillian White and Demsey McKean, but Hrgovic represents a clear step up.

It will also be Itauma’s first fight in London since he beat Mariusz Wach in July 2024. The Chatham, Kent southpaw has since boxed twice in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and once in Glasgow and Manchester.

It is likely that whoever wins will be in line for a shot at a heavyweight title in their next fight.
