Tyson Fury said he’ll refuse to box Anthony Joshua and will quickly take out his British rival when they square off December 11.
“Obviously my aim is to try and end the fight as early as possible,” Joshua said in an interview with The Ring’s Mike Coppinger. “There’s no extra time in boxing. I have a certain amount of time I can get the job done, and my goal is to try and execute that within the time that I’m allowed.
“The way I can make this fight exceed the expectations of the public by going in there with a will and desire to do exactly what my heart is filled to do. And when I look at what my expertise is, that’s to put people and nail them to the canvas. I definitely believe I’m good at that.”
When Joshua was asked for a prediction 10 weeks out from the fight, he didn’t mince words like he did during the cordial pleasantries exchanged with his decade-long rival at Wednesday’s press conference at British Airways ARC at the Olympia in London.
“Within 10 rounds, I’ll f*** him up,” Joshua said with a sly grin.
Joshua (30-4, 27 KOs) and Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs) have been on a career-long collision course for a clash that has finally come to fruition. The former two-time heavyweight champions are also set to square off for the vacant WBA “super” title.
“[All these years] is just how long it’s taken,” Joshua said. “And there’s just nothing I could have done about it to make it happen quicker.”
Joshua, who will turn 37 on October 15, also commented on the turbulent negotiations that led to a circuitous journey at the bargaining table. The fight ultimately will be staged in the United Kingdom as opposed to the United States because Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, pressed for their contractual rights.
“Especially over the last few weeks, I think that was adding a bit of soap opera drama,” he said. “I think that was amazing. Even though it wasn’t good for the people involved, I think it was amazing to add that drama and speculation to it.”
