Boxing legend Thomas Hearns has a new fight on his hands: rehabilitation.

The 66-year-old icon shared this week that he had hip replacement surgery, and posted videos on his Instagram page documenting the recovery process.

"As some of you may know, I've been on a health journey lately," Hearns wrote. "One of the biggest battles has been dealing with a bone-on-bone overlapping hip bone. I finally had it replaced and I'm now going through therapy so I can heal the right way and eventually get back in the gym ... I'm back home and officially starting my full-time physical therapy journey.

"Thank you all for the kind words, love, and support. It truly means a lot. I'll be back in the gym throwing crisp jabs and right hands before you know it!"

"The Hitman" and "Motor City Cobra" Hearns was a five-weight world champion (147, 154, 160, 168, 175 pounds) who retired in 2006 at 61-5-1 with 48 knockouts.

Hearns was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring in 1980 and '84 and was involved in iconic fights against Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler and Roberto Duran, among others.

Hearns was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2012.
