Bozy Ennis believes Zayas will push son Jaron 'as long as it lasts'

BROOKLYN – Bozy Ennis has no problem admitting that he's a fan of Xander Zayas.
Ennis appreciates Zayas' ability to seamlessly switch from offense to defense, his clever punch selection, and even the way he carries himself.
However when the WBA and WBO junior middleweight champion faces his son Jaron Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs, 1 NC) on June 27 at Brooklyn's Barclays Center, he doesn't believe he'll be able to do much.
"Xander's a great fighter to me," Bozy Ennis said during Wednesday's press conference. "That's one of the top guys that I like, but you gotta remember: 'Boots' can do everything. He can box, and he'll fight you on the inside.
"So it don't make a difference what way he's coming. Xander is a great fighter, and it's gonna be a good fight, as long as it lasts. Remember that, as long as it lasts.”
Zayas, still only 23, hasn't had too much trouble during his seven-year pro career to date. Being the sport's youngest unified world champion warrants him to hold a certain level of bravado.
Having trained his son from the beginning and watched him go on to become a unified welterweight champion, as well as The Ring’s No. 5 ranked junior middleweight, the proud father feels this fight will end only one way.
"It's gonna be a stoppage," he said. "You'll see when the time comes."
For the most part, Ennis hasn’t been forced to dig too deep into his bag of tricks.
Against Eimantas Stanionis last April, many believed that Ennis would have his hands full. That didn't happen, as he easily stopped the Lithuanian to become Ring, IBF, and WBA 147-pound champion. In his first fight at 154 pounds last October, he barely broke a sweat against Uisma Lima, stopping him in just one round.
Those fights proved easier assignments but in Zayas' case, Bozy sees a skillful fighter with pedigree and unshakable confidence. The elder Ennis hopes Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs) can push his son in ways that no one else has.
"I want him to take 'Boots' to another level," he said. "I want somebody to bring it out of him, and I think he's the guy to probably to do it."
