When you're tall, hit like a truck and have arms long enough to stretch across a room, callouts don't happen very often.
Yet, even with some of Hamzah Sheeraz’s imposing physical attributes, Caleb Plant wants a shot at him.
“I think that’s a big fight,” Plant said on All The Smoke Fight. “I’d definitely fight him.”
A high-profile name such as Plant (23-3, 14 KOs) might interest Sheeraz down the line, but he’s focusing on his upcoming bout. The Ring’s No. 8 168-pounder was ordered to face Alem Begic for the vacant WBO title. Sheeraz is ranked No. 2 in the WBO while Begic is fourth. Alvarez is slotted at No. 1 and Jacob Bank is third.
Prior to landing his second shot at a title, Sheeraz placed the super middleweight division on notice by stopping Edgar Berlanga as the headliner for Ring III in July.
Sheeraz’s career appears to have momentum, something Plant desperately needs. He might be No. 7 in The Ring’s super middleweight rankings, but he’s just 2-3 since 2021. As the favorite he normally gets the job done, but his previous fight changed that.
The 33-year-old was outworked and outhustled against Jose Resendiz in May, losing a split decision. He also lost his WBA interim title. Resendiz was later elevated to full champion.
Despite the disappointment, Plant’s confidence hasn’t hit rock bottom. If he does find himself squaring off against the lanky Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs), he believes that he’ll find a way to exploit his weaknesses.
“I think he’s a good fighter,” Plant said. “I think he hits hard, I think he’s got a lot of heart, but I’ve seen some things in his game that I can capitalize off of.”
