Ring and unified lightweight world champion Caroline Dubois is back in the US this weekend, watching closely as Stephanie Han defends her WBA strap against Holly Holm in a rematch.
Four months after their first meeting, Han (12-0, 3 KOs) will make the third defense of her WBA title in an immediate rematch with Holm (34-3-3, 9 KOs) in the second of a double MVPW-03 main event from El Paso, Texas.
Han previously stated a desire to box departing legend Katie Taylor, who holds a series of junior welterweight titles and seeks her final swansong at Dublin's 82,300-seater Croke Park stadium this September.
Saturday's defending champion has unfinished business with Holm, who was trailing 69-65, 68-65 and 69-64 on January 3 before an accidental clash of heads opened up a cut on her forehead and caused their Puerto Rico matchup to end prematurely.
Although losing handily across all three scorecards, Holm did enough to win a share of four rounds between the officials and they decided to run it back knowing unification bouts await the winner.
Dubois, who outpointed Terri Harper on April 5 to win the Ring and WBO titles, could be next later this year and her presence ringside sets the wheels in motion for a three-belt unification. The 25-year-old has welcomed the challenge of solving the powerful puzzle in IBF titleholder Elif Nur Turhan, while Han holds the division's other belt.
She was pictured alongside three-division champion Mikaela Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs) and former IBF bantamweight beltholder Shurretta Metcalf (15-5-1, 2 KOs) at Friday's weigh-in and posted on Instagram that she had eyes on the main event winner.
"This, of course, is her division, so one of them could be her future opponent. Whether it's that fight or Elif Turhan next, the idea is for her to continue unifying and eventually become undisputed," MVP co-founder Nikisa Bidarian told Sky Sports when asked about Dubois.
2022 Hall of Fame inductee Holm was complimentary of The Ring's No. 10-rated pound-for-pound boxer, almost 20 years her junior, when asked to assess the Brit by Sky.
"I think she's done well. She's definitely a fighter too, making a statement in the boxing world, very tough, and a lot of respect.
"I'm always open to anything. I just want to focus on this fight; it's the only one promised because everything depends on what happens. So I'm focused on that, and then we'll see what doors open after."
