Albert “Chop Chop” Gonzalez is taking a step up in competition when he faces Aaron Alameda on the undercard of Diego Pacheco-Immanuwel Aleem.
While Alameda represents the most significant test of Gonzalez’s career so far, he believes a win won’t be enough if he’s going to take the next step in his career. The 10-round featherweight bout between Gonzalez (17-0, 10 KOs) and Alameda opens the DAZN broadcast on Saturday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
“We want people to tune in, and when people are tuned in, and after watching my fight, I want them to ask themselves, ‘Who is this guy, and where has he been?’” Gonzalez told The Ring. “In order for me to do that, I gotta win in spectacular fashion. Thank God, we've been having a great training camp, and I'm more than ready to put that spectacular fight on.”
Gonzalez, 24, has won his last three fights by knockout. The Moreno Valley, California, native notched the second first-round knockout of his career in his last fight against Brandon Chambers on March 21 in San Bernardino, California.
The intriguing featherweight prospect credits the recent streak of knockout victories to what he’s learned in his last three fights, ranging from how to handle his weight cut and what he does and doesn’t need in camp.
“Now that I have 17 pro fights, every fight I'm learning,” Gonzalez said. “I'm learning my body more. I'm learning what helps me and what doesn't help me. What to add to this next camp, what not to add, and things of that nature. Thank God, every single fight we're learning, we're growing and it's been able to show in my last three fights.”
Alameda (30-3, 17 KOs) last fought in July 2025, losing every round across the judges’ scorecards against Yan Santana (17-0, 13 KOs). The 32-year-old from Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, has one world title shot to his name, but lost a unanimous decision to Luis Nery for the vacant WBC 122-pound title in 2020.
The only other loss of Alameda’s career was a majority decision defeat to current IBF featherweight champion Angelo Leo (26-1, 12 KOs).
“They didn't make it to that level for no reason,” Gonzalez said. “This sport is very tough already as it is, and to fight for a world title means something. It means a lot, and so I'm going in with the thought that this guy is very tough [and] my toughest opponent to date, but we're ready to get the job done.”
Gonzalez’s ascension has come under the eye of renowned trainer Robert Garcia. Gonzalez first met Garcia at 12 years old when his older brother, Daniel Gonzalez, started training at his gym. The love Gonzalez felt from Garcia and his team ultimately made it an easy decision to tab him as his trainer in 2023.
Being in the gym with a stable that includes three-division titleholder and The Ring's No. 4-ranked fighter pound-for-pound Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, IBF lightweight titleholder Raymond Muratalla and The Ring’s No. 2-ranked junior middleweight Vergil Ortiz has pushed him to one day be on the same playing field.
“It brings you nothing but motivation,” Gonzalez said. “To be able to see these guys and train with these guys and talk to them and see what it is that got them to be where they're at and being able to try to take notes on the way they train, the way they recover, the way they eat, the way they're disciplined outside of camp, it's a blessing to be in that stable.”
Ranked No. 8 by the IBF and No. 13 by the WBO at featherweight, Gonzalez isn’t far from being in the title picture. Being within grasp of a fight that could position him for a world title shot in the near future adds impetus for him to win impressively against Alameda.
