Few names are buzzing like Chris Eubank Jr.
The British star recently had an all-out war with Conor Benn and found himself escaping that fight with a close but clear unanimous decision victory.
Considering how captivating and competitive it was the first go-round, it only makes sense to run things back. And while that’s certainly a strong possibility, Eubank Jr. (35-3, 25 KOs) didn’t sound completely committed to an immediate rematch.
“The possibilities are endless,” Eubank Jr. told Sky Sports Boxing. “If the rematch is meant to be, it will be.”
Ultimately, the money might be too good to pass up on. But, Eubank Jr. wanted the world to know that he’s a man with options, good ones too.
Although he’s made the middleweight limit just fine in the past, his April 26 showdown against Benn was incredibly painful on the body. Eubank Jr. looked depleted at the ceremonial weigh-ins and fought like a man with no legs for large stretches.
The 35-year-old could attempt to change his diet and continue fighting at 160-pounds or he could move on to the super middleweight division. Eubank Jr. is familiar with the scene and could be enticed to do it again if a certain Canelo Alvarez came knocking at his door.
The current undisputed 168-pound king is fresh off a mundane win over William Scull. He’s also set to return to the ring in September to take on Terence Crawford.
Eubank Jr., to a large extent, has been stalking Alvarez, studying him, and watching his every move. Boxing can be an unpredictable sport. Eubank Jr. knows that better than most. However, he’ll do his best to drag the Mexican star into the ring as soon as possible.
“He is an opponent that I’ve been looking at for many years now,” Eubank Jr. continued. “The fans would love to see that. That’s a name that’s in my line of sight. We will be doing whatever we can to secure that fight in the future.”
