Could Eddie Hearn have his next heavyweight champ soon?

It's been a while since Eddie Hearn had a heavyweight champion in his stable, but a five-year drought for the British promoter might be coming to an end.
The promoter recently shared that discussions for a fight between WBA titleholder Murat Gassiev and Jarrell Miller are ongoing. Nothing is confirmed yet, but Hearn is enthused about negotiations.
“Gassiev is the WBA champion,” Hearn told iFL TV. “But he’s got to fight Jarrell Miller, our guy, which we’re negotiating at the moment.”
Miller (28-1-2, 22 KOs) isn’t the mandatory challenger for Gassiev’s strap, but in a strong position to fight him next.
The Brooklyn-born contender sits No. 2 in the WBA's heavyweight rankings, behind No. 1-rated Moses Itauma, who is scheduled to fight Filip Hrgovic for the vacant IBF world title on August 29 at London's O2 Arena.
If The Ring's No. 6 heavyweight prevails, he'll become the sport's second-youngest heavyweight champion of all-time and exit the WBA rankings. Defeat would see him drop down in September's rankings update. Nonetheless, Miller will likely be the top contender.
The loquacious New Yorker is coming off arguably a career-best win, pitching a lopsided decision over previously undefeated contender Lenier Pero on April 25.
Gassiev (34-2, 27 KOs) meanwhile has registered four consecutive knockout victories since losing a split decision to Otto Wallin in September 2023.
Among those wins was a sixth-round knockout of Kubrat Pulev to win the WBA’s secondary title. Gassiev was elevated to full champion after former undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk relinquished his belts in June.
Hearn views Gassiev as a good fighter, but not on Miller's level. If he's proven right and Miller can beat the former cruiserweight champion, many will be knocking on his door, including WBC titlist Agit Kabayel.
“Hopefully, Jarrell Miller can beat Gassiev, and we can do Miller against Kabayel,” Hearn said. “There’s loads of fights to be made.”
