For the first time in nearly nine months, Curmel Moton will step back into the squared circle.
Moton faces Puerto Rico’s Wilfredo Flores in a 10-round welterweight bout on a Manny Pacquiao Promotions card Saturday at Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York. The card, which can be streamed on Prime Video (5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT), is headlined by a 10-round featherweight bout between Elijah Pierce (21-2, 17 KOs) and Lorenzo Parra (23-1-1, 17 KOs).
Pacquiao’s son, Manny “Jimuel” Pacquiao Jr. (0-0-1), was scheduled to fight for the second time as a pro against Luis Santana Figueroa (0-2) in a four-round lightweight clash, but the bout was postponed.
Moton (8-0, 6 KOs) fought just twice in 2025 after competing four times in 2024. He turned pro in September 2023 and fought twice before the year’s end. The 19-year-old prospect hopes his return to the ring will be the start of a busy 2026.
“I’m looking to fight at least four times,“ Moton told The Ring. “I’m a young prospect [who is] still building my name [and] climbing the ranks. Just taking it one fight at a time for me to stay busy, and that's what I plan to do this year.”
He last fought on May 31, defeating Renny Viamonte Mastrapa by unanimous decision in an eight-round bout where he won every round on the three judges’ scorecards.
Eventually, Moton plans to settle in at 135 or 140 pounds, though he also didn’t rule out dropping down to 130 for the right opportunities. The direction Moton goes with his career will largely be guided by 2021 International Boxing Hall of Famer and five-division champion Floyd Mayweather.
The partnership with Mayweather is one that Moton believes gives him an edge.
“My relationship with Floyd is great,” Moton said. “He's always giving me advice. I can go to him and talk to him about anything, and I trust him. I trust my whole team 100 percent, and it's been great. I'm looking forward to continuing to have that relationship and going to the top with it.
“It means a lot. It gives me a lot of confidence. I feel like it gives me a lot of experience over other guys at my level or my age who are in the game. I feel like it boosts me ahead of everybody.”
Moton’s hopes of taking the next step in his career begin with getting past Flores (12-6-1, 5 KOs). Flores has lost six of his last eight fights, with five coming by unanimous decision.
“I've been working my ass off,” Moton said. “[Saturday is] going to show that I'm the more high-level fighter, the more skilled fighter, the more talented fighter and I’m going to go out there and show out …I’m going to get the win in spectacular fashion.”
