Keyshawn Davis is promising that his homecoming grudge match against Nahir Albright won’t leave any doubts.
Davis (14-0, 10 KOs) will take on Albright (17-2-1, 7 KOs) in a rematch on May 16 at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, to headline a Top Rank show on DAZN.
The last time Davis was supposed to star in the same venue in June, it resulted in a disaster as he missed weight by 4.3 pounds for his WBO lightweight title defense against Edwin De Los Santos, lost his title and had the fight get canceled. The event still took place, only to see Davis incite a locker room brawl with Albright right after he defeated his brother, Kelvin Davis.
Keyshawn and Albright will settle their feud in the ring in a 12-round, 140-pound fight, 31 months after they first fought to an inconclusive result.
“I know what I need to do to get prepared. I’m a better Keyshawn now,” Davis said in a training camp dispatch. “I’m not up-and-coming anymore. I’m a former world champion, and it’s going to show on May 16.
“This fight is going to be amazing because I’m amazing, and I go in there and stop guys and that’s what people pay to see. My job is to go out there and fight. I got into this position by knocking people out and being myself. That’s the only thing I need to do.”
When they met in October 2023, Davis, an Olympic silver medalist and now a five-year pro, sneaked by with a majority decision win. However, the fight was later ruled a no-decision after it was revealed that he had tested positive for marijuana.
After the Albright fight, Davis went on to beat Jose Pedraza (TKO6), Miguel Madueno (UD10), Gustavo Lemos (KO2) and Denys Berinchyk (KO4) for the WBO lightweight title before enduring the nightmare weekend last year. Davis, ranked No. 3 by The Ring at 140 pounds, bounced back in January and stopped Jamaine Ortiz in the 12th round of his junior welterweight debut.
Albright, meanwhile, fought to a unanimous draw against Frank Martin in February, his first bout since beating Kelvin Davis by majority decision.
While Albright, 30, has been cutting it close in his clashes, Davis, 27, is declaring the rematch will end definitively as he seeks to emphatically close a heated chapter with his rival.
“I don’t want an opponent who’s going to go in there and just lay down. In every fight I have, they should be coming confident, ready and prepared. So, he’s saying all the right things [by saying he’s ready],” said Davis.
“I’m starting to understand the game. I’m starting to understand myself and the blessing and abilities that I have and that God gave me. When I go in there super focused and in shape, I know nobody can hang with me. But even if they can hang, they’re going to get stopped, too. I’m confident in myself that I can stop anybody in the ring, from 140 to 147.
“This is an opportunity to stop guys that have never been stopped before. Albright is going to be the fourth guy I stop in a row. They’re going to keep saying that I’m going to be one of the greatest of all time.”
