Junior welterweight knockout artist Ernesto “Tito” Mercado has a new promoter and a date for his next fight.
Mercado (18-0, 17 KOs) announced Tuesday that he signed a deal with DMG Boxing, two months after sharing that he’d parted ways with Matchroom Boxing. Mercado also noted he is set to return for a hometown fight on June 19 at The Fox Theater in Pomona, California, against an opponent to be determined.
The “Night of Champions XIII” show will also feature the pro debut of Mercado’s brother, Daniel Mercado.
Touted as a “Prospect of the Year” in 2023 following wins against Jeremia Nakathila, Xolisani Ndongeni, Hank Lundy and Jayson Velez, Mercado signed with Eddie Hearn’s company in September 2024, but he only fought twice under the Matchroom banner.
The 24-year-old Mercado scored a sixth-round stoppage of Antonio Moran last time out in December and a fourth-round technical knockout of Jose Pedraza in January 2025.
In between, Mercado also saw a couple of fights fall through, once last June when he suffered a hand injury, and another in November 2024 when his opponent was overweight.
In recent months, Mercado made the rounds by attending Zuffa Boxing, PBC and Salita Promotions shows. He called for fights against the likes of Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis before signing with DMG Boxing.
“DMG Boxing is proud to welcome Tito Mercado to the team,” DMG Boxing CEO David Michery said on social media. “With his sights set on greatness, Tito continues his climb toward the top and we’re excited to begin this next chapter with one of boxing’s rising stars.”
Mercado joins a fast-growing roster at DMG Boxing that includes contenders Brandon Adams and Egidijus Kavaliauskas to complement a stable of prospects headlined by the likes of Terry Washington, Samuel Arnold and Thomas Covington.
