One week after announcing his decision to go pro, touted Team USA featherweight prospect Thomas Covington has inked a deal with a promoter and has a debut date on the docket.
Covington, an eight-time national champion, has signed a promotional deal with DMG Boxing and will make his pro debut on May 30 in Long Beach, California, on DMG's Night of Champions XII show, he told The Ring.
"I signed with DMG because they presented the best offer across the table and had a plan and vision for how we are going to go about my career and development," said Covington. "I’m super excited to get started and see what’s in store for me."
Covington is a 20-year-old from Detroit who said he has an estimated amateur record of 105-15.
"Thomas Covington is a statement signing for us," said DMG Boxing CEO David Michery. "He’s got the mindset, the talent, and the kind of style fans gravitate toward. We believe he has world championship potential, and we’re going to develop him the right way while moving aggressively."
