Brandon Figueroa has withdrawn from his fight against Tomoki Kameda.
Sources confirmed to The Ring’s Keith Idec on Saturday that Figueroa felt too ill to box after failing to make weight Friday for what was scheduled as a 12-round fight for the WBA featherweight title. Figueroa missed weight by 0.8 pounds and was stripped of his WBA featherweight title.
The Weslaco, Texas native didn’t attend the ceremonial weigh-in Friday. DAZN announcer Todd Grisham stated his absence was due to still rehydrating after missing weight.
Kameda (42-5, 23 KOs) would have been eligible to win the title in the 12-round contest if the fight took place. Had Figueroa (27-2-1, 21 KOs) won, the belt would have become vacant. The WBA featherweight title will remain vacant since the bout is no longer happening.
Figueroa, 29, was scheduled to face Kameda in the co-feature before Sebastian Fundora’s defense of his WBC 154-pound title against Ermal Hadribeaj on Saturday night. The 10-round bout between former WBA super middleweight champ Armando Resendiz (16-3, 11 KOs) and Koen Mazoudier (16-4-1, 6 KOs) has been moved into the co-feature spot.
DAZN will stream the main portion of the card internationally. It will be televised by TNT and TruTV in the United States.
Figueroa, The Ring’s No. 4-ranked featherweight, became the WBA 126-pound champion when he stopped Nick Ball in the 12th round February 7 in Ball’s hometown of Liverpool, England. He dropped Ball twice in the final round to become a two-time featherweight champion.
Kameda was supposed to make his second bid to win a featherweight world title. The Osaka, Japan, native lost a majority decision to IBF champion Angelo Leo in May 2025.
Kameda, 35, held the WBO bantamweight title from 2013 to 2015 before losing it by unanimous decision to Jamie McDonnell in May 2015. Figueroa made his pro debut on that same card, winning a unanimous decision against Hector Gutierrez in a four-round bout.
