Although many others had declined the opportunity, Frank Sanchez finally has an opponent on tap in The Ring's No. 9-rated heavyweight contender Richard Torrez after they agreed a deal - the winner deciding.
Frank Sanchez and Richard Torrez will contest an IBF heavyweight title final eliminator.
The Ring has learned that both sides have struck a deal, leading to their January 27 purse bid being canceled. A formal date hasn't yet been confirmed, but according to those involved a date in late March is the target.
Sanchez (25-1, 18 KOs) will get a chance to prove a career-worst night was little more than a blip, having been outmuscled, outworked and overmatched en route to a seventh-round stoppage defeat by WBC interim champion Agit Kabayel in May 2024.
Despite returning to winning ways with a third-round stoppage of Mexican journeyman Ramon Olivas Echeverria, this represents his first foray back at world level.
That victory got him into the IBF's good graces for an eliminator. Efe Ajagba, Filip Hrgovic and Moses Itauma — all among The Ring's top-10 rated heavyweights —
turned down facing Sanchez next.
Torrez, an Olympic silver medalist rated No. 9 by The Ring, scored victories over Guido Vianello and Tomas Salek in 2025.
The winner of their matchup will move front of the line for Ring and unified champion Oleksandr Usyk, who is assessing his options after Deontay Wilder pivoted from a potential matchup.
